• How to use a urine bag

Place the urine bag in its holder.

Clean the connection of the urine bag to the catheter of the catheter with alcohol swabs.

Place a towel under the bag and its port to prevent urine from leaking onto the leg.

Before connecting the bottom outlet of the bag to the catheter, make sure it is tightly closed. It is necessary to secure the bag in place in a stable manner. Make sure that it does not rest on the catheter tube and does not cause any problems or obstacles.

Connect the urine bag to the end of the catheter, gently insert the connector into the catheter port. When removing the catheter from the bag, you can prevent urine from dripping by bending the tube just below the tip and holding it. Be careful to keep the tip of the catheter clean when attaching the urine bag to the catheter. This will prevent germs from entering the urinary drainage system.

When the bag is full, empty it. To do this, move the clamp down. Straighten the flexible outlet tube to control the flow of urine. You do not need to remove it from the catheter when emptying the bag. Raise your leg to the edge of the toilet until it reaches the bag. Then you can empty the urine directly into the toilet. This way, you do not have to bend over, which can be uncomfortable.

Keep the urine bag clean. To reduce odor and keep the urine bag free of germs, wash it daily with water and vinegar.

Remember that the urine bag should always be placed at a level lower than the level of the bladder for proper urine drainage.

How to change a urine drainage bag at home?

During the day – if you need to change the urine bag – you can use drainage bags attached to the legs and at night drainage bags for sleeping.

To change a urine bag, you will also need:

• A clean drainage bag
• Soap
• Cold water

To change a urine bag, the following steps must be followed carefully:

First, wash your hands with warm water and soap.

To wash the inside of the bag, use cold water and soap, making sure to remove all the soap (do not use hot water as this may damage the bag).

To disinfect the inside of the bag, mix one cup of cold water and one cup of white vinegar, fill the bag halfway with this solution, and then shake well.

Leave the bag in this state for 15 to 30 minutes. Then empty the solution and rinse with cold water.

Hang the bag in a place to dry.

Wash your hands after you are done.
