Description

What is Duralay acrylic?

Duralay acrylic is a dental material used in root canals. It is also used in temporary restorations of dental crowns and bridges.

Appearance of Duralay acrylic

Duralay acrylic is red and sometimes has other colors such as white. It is usually sold in small jars. It often contains 56 grams of powder and 60 ml of liquid.

Advantages of Duralay acrylic

  • It is precise
  • It leaves no trace
  • It has a short working time (approximately 5 minutes)
  • It is flexible
  • It has very low shrinkage
  • It is well polished
  • It does not warp or break.

Features of Duralay acrylic

  • Self-curing: The self-curing feature of Duralay acrylic means that it hardens without the need for heat or external light sources. This feature allows for easy fabrication of temporary restorations.
  • Short Setting Time: Duracell acrylics often have a short setting time, which makes them efficient and reduces patient waiting time. However, setting time can vary depending on factors such as the specific product used and the ambient temperature.
  • Strength and Durability: Although this material is primarily used for temporary restorations, it is strong and durable enough to withstand the natural functions that may be problematic in the mouth during this time. However, it should not be considered a long-term permanent solution.
  • Aesthetics: Duracell acrylics are available in a variety of shades, allowing dentists to match the temporary restoration to the patient’s natural teeth. This enhances aesthetics and patient satisfaction during the transition to permanent treatment.
  • Ease of Use: This material has a relatively simple mixing and application process, making it user-friendly for dental students and professionals.
  • Precision: Duralumin acrylic allows for precise fabrication of tooth anatomy and arch lines, thus providing patient comfort and aesthetics by creating a desired fit.

Clinical Applications of Duralumin Acrylic

This material has a wide range of applications in dentistry. Some of its common applications include:

  • Temporary Crowns and Bridges: Duralumin acrylic is often used to fabricate temporary crowns and bridges. These restorations protect the tooth that is being prepared for treatment and also maintain proper occlusion.
  • Temporary Veneers: Duralumin acrylic can be used to fabricate temporary veneers in cases where the dentist needs to evaluate the aesthetics and function of the veneers before finalizing the treatment procedure. These veneers provide patients with a preview of the final result and help make appropriate adjustments if needed.
  • Orthodontics: Duralumin acrylic is used in the fabrication of a variety of orthodontic appliances such as retainers. These devices help correct occlusion, align and stabilize dental arches. Dural acrylic can also be used to make temporary splints for patients with temporomandibular joint disorders or to temporarily fix loose teeth. Splints provide short-term relief and support until definitive treatment is complete.
Space control until permanent tooth formation: In pediatric dentistry, dural acrylic can be used as a material to control space until permanent tooth formation. In fact, this material is used to maintain and control space after premature loss of primary teeth and allows for proper eruption of permanent teeth.
  • Denture base material: This material can also be used as a denture base material. For this purpose, it is used to make the pink part of removable dentures that are placed on the oral tissues. Denture base resins must be strong, durable, and biocompatible, and Durali meets these requirements.
    How Durali Acrylic Works

Pour 8 drops of monomer into a glass container and mix it with a spoon. Since the monomer is a volatile substance, you must work quickly to prevent evaporation.

To make Durali more adhesive, a thin rod called a sprue or pin can be used.

Durali hardens very quickly and the working time is short.

Final Words

Durali Acrylic is an acrylic material used to make temporary crowns and bridges in dentistry. It is known for its precision, strength, and resistance to shrinkage, breakage, or cutting. Durali Acrylic provides fast, dense, and precise healing while having very little shrinkage and hardness, yet it can be easily polished and cut. Acrylic Duraly is ready in 4 to 5 minutes. In addition to the Acrylic Duraly product, you can also purchase a variety of dental equipment from the Medilux website.
