Single and Double Edge Couter Plate Connection Wire or Cable

The couter plate connection wire or the couter plate and cauter device connection cable in electrocautery surgery acts as part of the connection system between the connection plate (which is connected to the patient) and the electrocauter device (which is the source of electrical current generation). This cable is used to transmit electrical current from the cautery device to the connection plate and is an essential part of the safety mechanism in electrosurgery. The purpose of using the plate and cable is to create a closed circuit in which electrical current is applied to the patient’s tissue through a contact electrode (blade or refractory) and then returned to the device through the plate connected to the patient to complete the electrical loop.

A disposable single or double edge couter plate is a soft, flexible gel plate that is connected to the cautery device through a connection wire about three meters long. At one end of this wire is a connector that the cautery plate tail is placed into and then locked, and at the other end is a socket that is connected to the cautery device and transmits the current. These sockets vary depending on the type and model of the device.

Couter Plate Connection Wire Specifications

Bipolar and monopolar cables, which have a round cross-section, are double-insulated with FEP to provide excellent electrical insulation. Electrosurgical cables are permanently heat-pressed serialized to provide traceability throughout their useful life.

The molded connectors of the electrical cables are made of TPU, which has good thermal stability and prevents microcracks in the plastic during autoclave cycles. The plate connection wires have permanent plastic labels with fifty punch points to track the autoclave cycle history of the cable. The user can insert a point each time the cable is autoclaved and easily see and monitor product usage.

What is a cotter plate?

In medicine, a cotter device is sometimes used to cut an organ or part of the body. The cotter device transmits an electrical current to the organ of interest through a special pen called a cotter pen. The resulting electrical current causes the part of interest to be cut. The resulting electrical current is removed from the body with the help of a cotter plate. This plate is placed on a part of the body that has adequate blood supply and is hairless, such as the left and right front thighs, the left and right buttocks, or the left and right arms of the patient, and isolates the electrical current from the body.

Role of Cauter in Ophthalmic Surgery

Electrosurgery is commonly used in ophthalmic surgery to cut, coagulate, dissect, fulminate, abrade, and shrink tissue. High-frequency (100 kHz to 5 MHz), alternating electric current at various voltages (200 to 10,000 volts) is passed through the tissue to produce heat. An electrosurgical unit (ESU) consists of a generator and a handpiece with one or more electrodes. The device is controlled using a switch on the handpiece or a foot switch. Electrosurgical generators can produce a variety of electrical waveforms. As these waveforms change, the corresponding tissue effects also change.

Instructions for using the electrosurgery plate connection cable

1. Ensure proper and complete connection to the plate and ESU device.
2. Ensure that the connector is fully locked to the plate tab.
3. Do not use the cable if it is torn or has any visible defects.
4. During the procedure, be careful not to separate the cable from the plate and ESU device.
